Humane Education for Students - Rhode Island

National History Day, Henry Bergh, and Humane Organizations

Below is a link to a copy of my National History Day paper. The topic was "The Individual in History" and I decided that, based on my interests, I would much enjoy writing a paper on Henry Bergh, the founder of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).  You have most likely heard of this organization, whether on the internet, the TV, in books and magazines, etc.  However, it is a common misconception that the ASPCA and the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RISPCA) are connected.  They are actually two separate organizations, although the RISPCA was also co-founded by Henry Bergh.  The ASPCA, due to its charter, is only effective in the state of New York, and there are many other state anti-cruelty and humane organizations throughout the country.  All of these points are discussed in the paper.
